We Build Ours Better

We use only proven construction methods and premium materials, giving you a finished product that stands out in both strength and quality.

This Is Why Our Barns Are Better

Pole barns are a cost-effective, durable alternative to traditional stick-built garages. With our premium post-frame construction systems designed to last for generations, your custom pole barn is built stronger, smarter, and more efficiently from the start.

Because post-frame buildings go up faster than standard framing, many of our Wichita-area pole barn builds are completed in about one month from ground breaking to inspection.

Every structure is fully engineered, permitted, and built to Kansas codes, ensuring long-term strength you can rely on. Our streamlined process—including excavation, column setting, framing, steel finishing, and trusted subcontractors for concrete, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing—ensures your custom pole barn project runs smoothly from start to finish.

We build barndominiums and homes that are made to last for generations. Your home is more than a structure—it’s a legacy—and we take that responsibility seriously. That’s why we never cut corners on materials or construction methods.

While other builders still rely on wooden posts that weaken over time from soil moisture, we take a stronger approach. Our custom builds use Brute Force Brackets made from ¼-inch steel and grade-40 rebar, giving your barndominium a foundation that’s built to endure long beyond our lifetimes.

These steel brackets aren’t just stronger—they install faster than traditional wood posts. That means fewer delays, a smoother construction process, and a quicker path to move-in day.

We’ve searched extensively to source materials that meet our high standards because our goal isn’t just to build a house or shop—it’s to create a home that stands proud for generations. With every project, we combine premium materials, proven post-frame engineering, and craftsmanship you can trust.

At A Better Barn Company, we’re not just building barns and barndominiums—we’re helping you build something that lasts.

We’re here to clear up any queries you might have about your upcoming project. Dive into our FAQ section to find answers to some common questions.

Got something more specific in mind?

Just hit the link below. We’re eager to chat with you and help kickstart your dream.

Why do we recommend shingles instead of steel roofing?

We recommend high quality 50-year lifetime shingles because of their 25–30-year warranty. Steel roofs use rubber O-rings. Michigan has harsh winters that will cause them to deteriorate quicker and cause leaking. With the high-quality shingles there are no O-rings to leak so you can enjoy your barn more and worry less.

What size garage door do you recommend?

We recommend adding 14’ doors to accommodate most RVs and campers.

What height should my barn be?

We recommend at least 16’ to accommodate the 14’ doors.

Will post rot in the ground?

Any ground contact wood will eventually rot. We use Perma-Columns which eliminates wood in the ground.

What is a Perma-Column?

They are precast concrete posts with a strength of 10,000 psi. normal concrete has a strength of 2,500 psi. They carry a lifetime warranty and keep the wood posts out of the ground to eliminate the chance of rot.

What heat source should I use in my barn?

We recommend In-floor radiant heat. It distributes heat evenly where installed. This will offer more control of the heat in your barn. The initial costs of installation may be more than alternatives, but it often provides cost savings in the long run with lower energy bills.

What are my options for doors?

Sliding pole barn doors- With sliding doors it requires you to unlock and open the door each time just to access the building. Sliding doors often do not seal completely which can expose your building to dirt, insects, animals, and add to heating/cooling problems.

Roll up doors- They are strong and durable. Also, they are easy to operate and have low maintenance. Usually costs about the same as an overhead door without the benefit of remote controls of larger doors. They are usually less customizable and less aesthetically pleasing.

Overhead door- They offer the most protection for your building, equipment, and supplies you keep in it. They seal and add weather resistance to provide the best temperature control and moisture prevention for your building.

We recommend the overhead doors.

What insulation do you recommend?

We recommend closed cell spray foam. It creates an airtight seal and fills all gaps. This adds to temperature control and noise reduction. It is very durable, resistant to water damage, mold, and pests. It also does not lose R-value like fiberglass insulation. It can last decades without being replaced.
